The best bars & restaurants, seven best types of cheese or just things on a list. We’ve all read the piles of lists that float around the web all claiming to be definitive guides to everything from Bond movies to Christmas ballads. Well, you’re about to read some more (hopefully).
The idea behind the Grills & Spills ‘Checklists‘ are that I offer however many pretty damn cool versions of whatever we’re talking about. No particular order, no bias, just good things I’ve seen, tried, loved and think you’ll also love.
So, what’s on todays list? Hot Cocktails! The perfect toasty and toast-able accompaniments to these chilly winter months. There’s no better feeling than coming in out of the cold and clutching a warm mug of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. But what do you do when you the night falls and you need something with a bit more “kick”? Well, you can now experiment with these cosy Hot Cocktails and warm your cockles whilst getting a little winter buzz.
1:: BOURBON APPLE & ORANGE CIDER
Mulled cider is one my favourite aspects of the Christmas period and bourbon is my favourite spirit. So combining the two and adding in some traditional Christmas orange flavours is sure to be a winner.
Contains: Hot Apple Cider, Bourbon, Orange Liqueur, Orange Slices, Honey. Topped with an apple wedge.

2:: TODDY SHERRY HAM
Inspired by the season and fashioned with love of an old home recipe for mulled wine. Last Chance Saloon’s Christian Tirel took to the task of combining THE three staple winter drinks, Hot Buttered Rum, Hot Toddy & Mulled Wine. Out of it came the “Toddy Sherry Ham” – a warm, meaty & spicy treat.
Contains: Serrano Ham washed blended Scotch, Applejack, Merlot, Pedro Ximenez, Pineapple Juice, Spiced Butter & Sugar

3:: DEAD RABBIT’S IRISH COFFEE
An old classic perfected. It’s a deceptively simple recipe, but don’t for a second think that the particulars of every ingredient and measurement weren’t toiled over meticulously for hours upon hours to create the perfect Irish Coffee. Scrap your old recipe and follow this instead, you’ll thank me later.
Contains: Irish Whiskey, Hot filtered coffee, Demerara sugar syrup, Whipped heavy cream, Garnished with freshly grated nutmeg.

4:: HOT NIGHT IN NORMANDY
The only rum drink on the list, and with the most labour intensive recipe – but trust me, it’ll be worth it. Combining a black strap rum caramel base with traditional Christmas flavours like cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, then finished with Calvados Apple Brandy, this is a complex drink that packs an awesome punch. My tip would be to sack off making dessert and just finish with this bad boy instead.
Contains: Sugar, Lemon juice, Black Strap Rum, Butter, Orange zest, Apple cider, Whole Nutmeg, Cloves, Cinnamon, White Rum and Calvados Menorval

5:: HOT GIN PUNCH
Given that it’s the season of sharing and giving, it’s only proper to include a lovely punch for you to share at parties. Inspired by traditional victorian recipes this adaptation is clean, simple & strong. Instead of overcomplicating the flavourings, the Gin sits front and centre and you can really appreciate the botanicals of your chosen brand.
Contains: Lemon juice and zest, Whole lemons, Gin, Water, Sherry and Demerara Sugar
